This route travels up Big Cottonwood Canyon and over the crest of the Wasatch Range at Guardsman Pass (9,700 feet). From there, the road winds down through Wasatch State Park into Midway.
This route is primarily paved, but includes a couple of short unpaved sections of road. Most rental cars should be able to handle it. (A Honda Civic does just fine) There is no high-clearance required, but washboards and potholes may be encountered. We recommend this route if you have extra time and want to see some sights. There is spectacular mountain scenery the entire way, and this route provides a leisurely alternative to interstate highway travel. If fall colors are at their peak, this route is not to be missed! Keep your eye out for moose, they are commonly seen along this road.
Free shuttle service between Salt Lake City International Airport and the Zermatt Resort provided by Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining and the National Park Service.
